Basic Life Support Course

COURSE INTRODUCTION

Basic Life Support (BLS) is the immediate care provided to a person experiencing a life-threatening emergency until advanced medical assistance becomes available.

The purpose of BLS is to:

• Recognise a life-threatening emergency quickly.
• Activate the emergency response system.
• Provide high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when available.
• Support the airway and breathing.
• Respond to choking and airway obstruction.
• Continue care until qualified emergency personnel take over.

These learner notes are designed for a UAE-based BLS training programme. They provide educational guidance and must be used together with practical instruction from a qualified BLS instructor.

Important: Resuscitation procedures and clinical recommendations may change. Learners must follow the current protocol, curriculum and assessment requirements adopted by their approved training provider or certifying organisation.
